In 1962, The Old Bridge (constructed in 1831), was found to be sinking as a result of elevated visitors and wanted to changed. In 1968, the City of London bought the bridge to Robert P. McCulloch for £1.02 million ($2.46 million). The bridge was dismantled and shipped to the US and was rebuilt in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The present bridge was constructed from 1967 to 1972 and was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on March 17, 1973.
